WhatsApp. A very dangerous message is currently circulating through messaging application, and it fools a lot of people who don't know how to treat what they receive from other people, mainly strangers. More precisely, a message targeting terrorism is distributed through the platform to users all over the world, people being warned that ISIS is using their profile pictures on the WhatsApp platform to create accounts and promote their own propaganda.
WhatsApp. The message is thought out quite intelligently, because it seems to be signed by an apparent police commissioner from Delhi, India, everything being designed to make the scam as real as possible, and to fool as many people as possible. To make the situation even more "urgent", those who designed the message claim that both ISIS and the hackers behind the terrorist organization have access to the accounts of WhatsApp users, and they should delete their profile pictures for 20-25 days.
WhatsApp and the dangerous message with ISIS terrorists spreading pictures and accounts
WhatsApp. The hoax is so well thought out that in India many people have "fallen into the trap", and the worst part is that they have distributed the message to other people, propagating the message of ISIS terrorists. The problem is that a hoax of this kind was also distributed via WhatsApp two years ago, with the name of the same commissioner from India, the image also being identical, so the people who did this did not bother to change anything.
A message being circulated on WhatsApp asks users to change their display pictures (DP) as ISIS intends to use it for terrorist activities. The message is signed off by one AK Mittal, designated as Commissioner of Delhi and an IPS officer. The message warns users of ISIS terrorists and some hackers having access to their numbers, who would make use of their profile photos for nefarious activities. The message also claims that the WhatsApp CEO has urged everyone to remove personal images for the next 20-25 days.
WhatsApp. Unfortunately, the messaging platform is used by a lot of people to distribute fake news all over the world, and unfortunately a lot of people fall into this trap. It still takes a special user to believe that ISIS stole his profile picture, has access to his WhatsApp account, and that he has to delete his picture for 25 days, and that explains why materials of this kind are shared by so many people.
WhatsApp. In conclusion, if you still receive messages telling you that ISIS has stolen your account or profile picture, you should not be fooled.
