Nokia 9. New Face ID in PREMIERE on Android Phones

Nokia 9. The new phone brings for the first time to the Android world a new type of Face ID, which promises to make facial recognition as safe as on the iPhone.

Nokia 9 Face ID

Nokia 9. Announced on the same day as Huawei MATE X, the new phone from HMD Global did not receive as much attention, although it comes with a camera that has 5 integrated image sensors, a first for the Android world. Separately, the Nokia 9 comes with an integrated facial recognition system, and according to those who provide the technology behind it, it would be as good as Face ID, in theory.

Nokia 9. The facial recognition system implemented in Finns' phones is called TrulySecure, and according to those who created it, it would have FIDO certification, and an accuracy level of 99.9999%, i.e. the same as Face ID. I saw the other day that the facial recognition in the Samsung GALAXY S10 can be fooled with a picture, but this system TrulySecure from the Nokia 9 should not be as easy to remove by a malicious person.

Nokia 9. This facial recognition system, unlike Face ID in iPhone X/XS/XR, does not use a 3D camera, or laser and infrared sensors, but uses artificial intelligence to correctly detect the user's face. The detection of the user's face is done in less than a second, with that 99.9% accuracy, and thus the Nokia 9 would have a system at least as secure as Face ID, but of course it will be seriously tested.

TrulySecure is a FIDO Certified™ biometric authentication technology that quickly, conveniently and securely recognizes enrolled users via powerful face biometric recognition technologies. Featuring the latest in Sensory's embedded AI technology, TrulySecure can identify and authenticate enrolled users in less than a second and differentiate individuals at a 99.999% accuracy rate. Boasting industry-leading on-device liveness detection and anti-spoofing algorithms, TrulySecure makes it nearly impossible for an imposter to gain access to a protected device or app. Mitigating the security concerns of competing facial recognition technologies, TrulySecure runs completely on device, stores biometric profiles as highly encrypted irreversible code, and never sends biometric data over the internet.

Nokia 9. It's not the first Android phone to come with a facial recognition system that promises a level of security as high as that of Face ID, but so far none have proven to be quite as good, or as fast. If TrulySecure from Nokia 9 is really as safe as Face ID, then we might see it implemented even in other Android phone models in the future, as an alternative to fingerprint readers.

Nokia 9. Although it is an interesting phone, it still comes with a year-old processor, and a far from attractive design, but the promotional price of 600 euros is still something worthy of all praise.
