UBER. You probably already know that a group of parliamentarians supports a new legislative project that would outlaw the taxi services offered by this company, Taxify, and any others that work the same way. They all say that they offer ridesharing services, but we all know that it is taximetry, simply, but UBER, Taxify, and the other companies, have received good news from the Minister of Transport, Razvan Cuc, and, in essence, it's good news for everyone.
UBER. Despite the fact that the taxi drivers demand the prohibition of competing ridesharing services, Razvan Cuc says that he does not want such a thing, but only their regulation, so that they operate in full legality. The Minister of Transport claims that he wants to ban piracy in the field of taximetry, not to actually ban UBER, Taxify, or other similar services, which is still good news for the more than 2 million Romanians who use their services.
UBER. GOOD news from the Minister of Transport
UBER. The fight between taxi drivers and ridesharing services is a long-standing and old one, many of them understanding that there is no winning cause here, and moving on to the companies they fought against. You probably felt this in the rides you did, some of the UBER drivers, or Taxify, having an extremely bad driving style, just like the taxi drivers, the services suffering from this war even without being banned actually by someone.
I have not seen such an ordinance (emergency ordinance to amend the Taximetry Law - no) and I cannot decide what will happen in the future (...). We have to be very careful about how a field is regulated. I understand that it is a bill submitted by a group of MPs and on the ridesharing side – it will be debated in the committees and then it will go to the plenary. I under no circumstances, together with the colleague from Development, do not want to fence or through a measure that is put in that ordinance to fence in any way any of the companies that are on the market. We worked on that ordinance, we come here to fight piracy, nothing else.
UBER. Going over this, the Romanian Government does not want to ban ridesharing services, this is very clear, because if it wanted to do this, it had many chances to do it, and it did not get tired. Classic taxis will not disappear, there are many people who do not know how to use UBER, Taxify, or do not want to do it, so taxi drivers will not disappear, even with the prices made behind the wheel, and with the attitude that everyone he hates her.
UBER. On the other hand, it is possible that the activity of ridesharing services will be regulated in Romania at some point, but it is quite difficult to say exactly when this will happen.
