WhatsApp. Despite the fact that it is a platform whose messages are completely controlled by the Facebook company, and that their interception is not difficult, the members of political parties in Romania are very active within it. Today, a new scandal appeared in the press in which Gabriela Firea, from the PSD, attacked Marian Oprisan, another influential leader of the party, because of some communications made within a WhatsApp group of the party's presidents.
WhatsApp. For a party that declared itself to be so scared of the "parallel state", the use of the platform by the PSD is quite strange, as it is known that all communications can be intercepted, and not very difficult. We already know from various international scandals that WhatsApp is not a secure platform, despite everything the American company says, or even Facebook, but the members of political parties in Romania seem to be fans of it.
WhatsApp. The Favorite Form of Communication for Romanian Parties
WhatsApp. Of course, not only those from PSD use the messaging platform for communication or organization, but also other political parties in the country, and they all expose their communications to any entities capable of intercepting them. What's worse is that people from other state institutions also use WhatsApp to communicate, sometimes even in official matters, and all probably because of the fear of telephone interceptions made in recent years.
In other words, Mr. Oprişan accused Mr. Stănescu of not knowing how to write. Let me not start talking about grammatical problems, because this is my field. Let's be civilized and still keep a limit. It is not normal, after you attacked Paul Stănescu on the group of presidents on Whatsapp, you attacked him unworthy, with some lies, that he wants to make the party small, to give it to Mr. Ponta.
WhatsApp. The problem is that the Facebook platform can also be intercepted, and this can be done even without anyone knowing, so interception warrants would not really be necessary. WhatsApp is the favorite method of communication for over 2 billion people around the world, and the fact that political parties in Romania use the platform for the same purpose, or for organization, is not exactly something new, but a situation that has been going on for years.
WhatsApp. From my point of view, much safer alternatives exist at the moment, such as Signal, and although it is not quite as popular, it might be more secure to keep communications secret. Today's incident with PSD, the information comes from insiders, not from interceptions, but what is intercepted is known only to those who do it, and the information is used "when necessary".
