This attack is one that can only be done in the real world by hackers, not one that can be done directly on the Internet, and that makes it more dangerous than others that are also done without the users knowing. According to those who discovered this method of cracking iPhones, the attack can be accomplished using lasers aimed at the microelectromechanical sensors of iPhones, Homepod speakers, or any other Android phones or smart speakers.

The iPhone may have exploited Siri through this method, Android phones may have exploited Google Assistant, or Amazon Alexa, all of which can run hackers' commands without the user knowing what is happening. The laser must be pointed by the hacker in the area where the microphone of iPhones or smart speakers is located, in the same area as the microelectromechanical sensors, and thus the malicious commands are recorded and run automatically.
“Pointing a low-power laser into these voice-activated systems allows attackers to inject commands of their choice up to 110 meters (360 feet). Because voice-controlled systems often do not require users to log in, the attack can often be carried out without the need for a password or PIN. Even when systems require authentication for certain actions, it may be possible to brute force the PIN because many devices do not limit the number of guesses a user can make. Among other things, light-based commands can be sent from one building to another and penetrate glass when a vulnerable device is kept near a closed window.”
These attacks cannot be carried out over the Internet, but only in the real world while the laser is pointed directly at the victim's device, and this makes them quite difficult to achieve, but not impossible. The problem itself is a very serious one because the phone can be broken while the victim is sitting outside on a terrace, on a bench, etc., it is important that the iPhone or Android phone be held in place so that the laser is directed towards the sensors long enough.
