Huawei made a worrying announcement about its phones, the Chinese company taking a lot of people by surprise with a sincerity that is based on the fact that the US sanctions are seriously affecting it. Huawei expects phone sales to drop by 20% this year due to US sanctions restricting its ability to integrate Google applications and services into its devices, since May 2019.

Huawei made this announcement during an internal meeting of its managers, so we are not talking about a public communication, but the company expects sales to decrease by somewhere around 50 million units. This represents 20% of the sales recorded in 2019, Huawei surpassing 240 million units sold globally, a record for the company, but the US sanctions will severely limit its ability to maintain this figure in 2020.

Huawei, despite this decrease, could remain at the same level as Apple, or could easily surpass it, and this is because in 2019 Americans only sold almost 200 million iPhones. It is possible, however, that in the absence of alternatives from Huawei, those from Apple will increase their sales among customers who no longer have anything to buy from the Chinese, Donald Trump appearing steadfast in his decision to keep active the sanctions imposed on the Chinese company.

"Huawei expects its annual phone shipments to fall by about 20% this year, which would be its first annual decline, as a result of US sanctions on its business. Huawei announced its internal forecast for 2020 in January with a small number of managers from its consumer electronics division. The estimate has not been previously reported. The decline in Huawei shipments, after nearly a decade of rapid growth, stems from expected weak sales in Europe and other overseas markets."

Huawei could get rid of problems if Donald Trump loses his mandate as president of the USA, but not in 2020, because he will remain in office until January 2021, and he will certainly not want to give up the sanctions. If Huawei gets rid of the sanctions, then it could only be expected in 2021, if another US president is elected, but in 2020 the chances of Google applications returning to its phones remain lower than in 2019, Unfortunately.

Huawei will launch the P40 series on March 26, the Lite model already being put on sale without the Google applications, and for the rest of the models there will not be much interest without these important applications.
