After almost a month since the entry into force of the new law on quarantine and isolation, the situation of the Coronavirus pandemic remains extremely serious and grave in Romania, our country reaching first place in the European Union in terms of the number of deaths due to COVID-19.
Although the authorities expected the number of cases to decrease in the next period, unfortunately this is not happening, on the contrary, the number of cases is continuously increasing, which shows us that things will not change very soon, unfortunately.
The number of people admitted to intensive care is also on the rise, reaching almost half of the total number of ICU beds available in Romania, and Raed Arafat warns that soon we may see that doctors choose who is admitted, and who do not.
"Until today, August 15, on the territory of Romania, 69.374 cases of people infected with the new coronavirus (COVID-19) have been confirmed.
32.334 patients were declared cured and 7.814 asymptomatic patients were discharged 10 days after detection.
Following the tests carried out at the national level, compared to the last report, 1.328 new cases of people infected with SARS - CoV - 2 (COVID - 19) were registered, these being cases that have not previously had a positive test. The distribution of total cases and new cases by county can be found in the table below.

To date, 2954 people diagnosed with COVID-19 have died.
In the interval 14.08.2020 (10:00) - 15.08.2020 (10:00) 50 deaths (32 men and 18 women) of patients infected with the new coronavirus, hospitalized in hospitals in Alba, Argeș, Bacău were recorded .
Of these, 2 deaths were registered in the age category 40-49 years, 7 deaths in the age category 50-59 years, 17 deaths in the age category 60-69 years, 17 deaths in the age category 70-79 years and 7 deaths in the over 80 category.
47 of the registered deaths are of patients who presented comorbidities, and 3 deceased patients did not present comorbidities.
In the health units, the total number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 is 7.309. Of these, 473 are hospitalized at ATI.
Until this date, at the national level, 1.502.042 tests have been processed. Of these, 23.986 were performed in the last 24 hours, 14.239 based on the case definition and medical protocol, and 9.747 on request.
On the territory of Romania, 9091 people confirmed to be infected with the new coronavirus are in isolation at home, and 5479 people are in institutional isolation. Also, 26702 people are in home quarantine, and 26 people are in institutionalized quarantine.
In the last 24 hours, 1.112 calls were registered to the single emergency number 112 and 620 to the TELVERDE line (0800 800 358), opened specifically for informing citizens.
As a result of the violation of the provisions of Law no. 55 of 15.05.2020 regarding some measures to prevent and combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the police and gendarmes applied, in the last 24 hours, 968 contraventional sanctions, in the amount of 362.001 lei.
Also, through the competent structures of the Police, yesterday, 5 crimes were detected for thwarting the fight against diseases, an act provided for and punished by art. 352 Criminal Code.
We remind citizens that the Ministry of Internal Affairs operationalized, starting on 04.07.2020, a TELVERDE line (0800800165) where violations of health protection rules can be reported.
