The coronavirus weekend did not bring us a decrease in the number of infections with the new coronavirus, but on the contrary, we saw an increase compared to last week, a sign that the situation is going much worse, which is not happening for the first time , Unfortunately.
Despite all the hopes of the authorities that the number of infections with the new Coronavirus will decrease, in reality we have only seen increases, unfortunately, and it is very possible that things will go in the same direction in the next period for Romania.
The number of people hospitalized in intensive care remains at half of the total capacity available in Romania, but unfortunately it is constantly increasing, the authorities fearing that they will not be able to cope with the number of people who need help.
"Until today, August 17, on the territory of Romania, 71.194 cases of people infected with the new coronavirus (COVID-19) have been confirmed.
32.759 patients were declared cured and 8.072 asymptomatic patients were discharged 10 days after detection.
Following the tests carried out at the national level, compared to the last report, 733 new cases of people infected with SARS - CoV - 2 (COVID - 19) were registered, these being cases that have not previously had a positive test. The distribution of total cases and new cases by county can be found in the table below.

To date, 3.029 people diagnosed with COVID-19 have died.
Between 16.08.2020 (10:00) and 17.08.2020 (10:00) 38 deaths (21 men and 17 women) of patients infected with the new coronavirus, admitted to hospitals in Argeș, Bacău, Bihor, were recorded , Caraș-Severin, Cluj, Constanța, Dâmbovița, Dolj, Galaţi, Hunedoara, Iași, Prahova, Suceava, Timiș, Tulcea, Ilfov and the City of Bucharest.
Of these, 3 deaths were registered in the 40-49 age category, 4 in the 50-59 year age category, 10 deaths in the 60-69 year age category, 12 deaths in the 70-79 year age category and 9 deaths in category over 80 years.
36 of the registered deaths are of patients who presented comorbidities, and 2 deceased patients did not present comorbidities.
In the health units, the total number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 is 7.472. Of these, 497 are hospitalized at ATI.
Until this date, at the national level, 1.520.750 tests have been processed. Of these, 6.390 were performed in the last 24 hours, 4.518 based on the case definition and medical protocol, and 1.872 on request. Also, since the last information provided by the GCS, the results of 472 tests processed prior to the last 24 hours and transmitted until August 17 have been reported.
On the territory of Romania, 9.604 people confirmed to be infected with the new coronavirus are in isolation at home, and 5.509 people are in institutional isolation. Also, 26.442 people are in home quarantine, and 192 people are in institutionalized quarantine.
In the last 24 hours, 660 calls were made to the single emergency number 112.
As a result of the violation of the provisions of Law no. 55 of 15.05.2020 regarding some measures to prevent and combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the police and gendarmes applied, in the last 24 hours, 1.723 contraventional sanctions, in the amount of 456.851 lei."
