Google Pay Launched in Romania

Google Pay, one of the largest mobile payment services in the world, has finally been launched for users in Romania, at a fairly large number of banks, which are listed in full below.

"Starting this week, Google Pay is available in Romania through the mobile applications of partner financial institutions.

In the context of increasing requests for digital payments, Google collaborated with MasterCard and Visa, as well as partner financial institutions to bring a safer, simpler and more useful payment experience to Romania. At the moment, Google Pay is available in Romania through the applications of the following institutions, with others to join later:
Revolut
Corners
Transferwise
ING Bank
UniCredit Bank
Banca Transilvania
Alpha Bank
CEC Bank
Viva Wallet IBAN
Orange Money

Although the Google Pay application is not directly available in Romania, customers of these financial institutions will be able to use Google Pay online and in any store that accepts contactless payments via Visa or Mastercard. The technical solution is called "Google Pay as a service", which allows card issuers to integrate Google Pay into their mobile payment applications.

To add a card to Google Pay, users need to open the bank's app and go to the "Add to Google Pay" section. Once the card enrollment process has been completed, the cardholder can pay contactless in-store with their phone or online at merchants that accept Google Pay. Once the card has been saved, it can be managed from your mobile device settings (Google > Account Services > Google Pay)

Security is a key element of Google Pay, so there are several levels of payment security. Among these is "tokenization", the payment industry's standard solution, which assumes that transactions are carried out with a virtual card number (acting as the token), specific to each device, associated with a dynamic security code that changes on every transaction. This functionality and others will work alongside security solutions offered by card issuers. Also, if the owner has lost or stolen their phone, they can use Find My Phone to lock the device from anywhere, change its password or even erase personal data from it. "
