RCS & RDS, one of the largest telecommunications operators in all of Romania at the moment, is facing a problem for which there is still no answer, but one that could be extremely serious. Although those from RCS & RDS decided in 2019 to make a 5G network in Romania, and to expand it to surprisingly many locations in the country, unfortunately the company uses equipment from the Huawei company, and this is where the biggest problem arises.
RCS & RDS could be forced to remove that equipment from its 5G network, either now or in the coming years, as has already been decided in certain countries around the globe in this situation. In some countries, the use of Huawei equipment for 5G mobile networks has been completely banned, and if a similar decision is made in Romania, then it is possible that RCS & RDS will be forced to remove from the start all the equipment it has already used.
RCS & RDS: THE PROBLEM FOR WHICH THERE IS STILL NO ANSWER
RCS & RDS he said that he uses a combination of equipment from Huawei and Ericsson for the 5G stations in Romania, without saying what the share is, but the Chinese equipment is much cheaper. It is possible that there will be more of them in the 5G network of those from RCS & RDS, and if so, then when it is decided what happens with Huawei, it is possible that a decision will come from the authorities that to overturn what has been done so far.
RCS & RDS he does not know yet what will happen with this equipment, the authorities avoiding making any decision, and although it was supposed to come in 2020, it is possible that it will come only in 2021, maybe, if there is time for it. The authorities in Romania want to organize the auction for 2021G frequencies in 5, but it is possible that this will not happen this year either, but those from RCS & RDS stopped the investments in 5G from 2020 precisely because of the unknown.
RCS & RDS could return to investments in 2021, but only if something very clear is known about the equipment that can be used, and who will be able to use the 5G networks.
