Facebook and Google Collaborate for new Underwater Cables

Facebook and Google are collaborating for new underwater cables that will connect two continents, and will make data transfer much faster between the respective two areas, the USA and Southeast Asia being the two interconnected areas.

Facebook will invest in two underwater cables as part of this project, while Google will only invest in one, so one of the companies will put more money than the other into the development of the important project that was officially announced.

Facebook and Google have not yet revealed how much they would have to pay for both cables to be built, but it is certainly about billions of dollars, so it remains to be seen what kind of official information will come about them.

"Facebook and Google plan to lay two huge undersea cables to connect the US West Coast to Singapore and Indonesia, Southeast Asia's largest economy and home to a growing number of smartphone users. The trans-Pacific Echo and Bifrost cables will increase data capacity between regions by 70 percent and improve Internet reliability, Facebook said Monday.

While Facebook is investing in both cables, Google is only investing in Echo. The cost of the projects, which are still subject to regulatory approvals, has not been disclosed."
