Officially, Valeriu Gheorghita Announces the Continuation of Vaccination with AstraZeneca

Valeriu Gheorghita, the coordinator of the vaccination campaign against the Coronavirus, announced today that Romania will continue to vaccinate the entire population with the AstraZeneca vaccine, despite the fact that in some European countries the process has either been stopped or certain age groups are not vaccinated.

Valeriu Gheorghita says that the benefits of vaccination with AstraZeneca far outweigh the risks, and the detection rate of thrombosis after immunization with this serum is 0.65 per 100.000 vaccinated people, so far 400.000 people have been immunized with this vaccine.

"The European Medicines Agency confirms that the benefit-risk ratio of AstraZeneca's vaccine remains positive. A possible causal relationship with the formation of blood clots with unusual characteristics associated with low platelet levels is also identified.

Following the work session, which took place during this day, the following conclusions and recommendations emerged. Vaccination with the AstraZeneca vaccine continues for all age groups. People immunized with dose 1 will continue the booster with the same type of vaccine. People who, after the first dose of the vaccine, have developed a thrombotic event have a contraindication to vaccination with the vaccine from AstraZeneca. Also, following medical investigations for those possible cases, the appropriateness of continuing the vaccination scheme with another type of vaccine will be decided."
