Romanian Police: The Actions Carried Out in the Last Week in the Context of the Pandemic

Romanian Police Actions Last Week in the Context of the Pandemic

The Romanian Police presented its activity from the last week in terms of combating the COVID pandemic throughout the country, together with all the fines granted, together with other types of measures taken to enforce compliance with preventive measures.

"The structures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs continued actions to limit the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, paying special attention to places where the risk of transmission is increased, namely crowded spaces, shopping centers, public transport.

The police and gendarmes carried out more than 12.000 preventive actions to raise the awareness of citizens and economic operators about the need to comply with health protection measures.

In the last seven days, 7.924 actions were carried out to control the way in which the legal regulations aimed at preventing illness from COVID-19 are respected.

In total, more than 26.000 economic operators, 1.540 operators of means of transport and approximately 300.000 objects of interest, of which almost 25.000 public catering spaces, were checked. Also, more than 600.000 people were checked.

20.447 contraventions were found, and fines in the amount of over 4,2 million lei were imposed.

Most sanctions were applied for

  • not wearing a protective mask – 17.237;
  • non-compliance with travel bans – 2.549;
  • non-compliance with quarantine or isolation measures - 306.

Following the verification actions of the last seven days, 40 criminal files were drawn up, of which 16 were for the crime of thwarting the fight against diseases.

At the moment, the police are working on more than 400 criminal files regarding possible fraud registered in the process of issuing approximately 1.330 certificates or vaccination certificates. 1.069 people are being investigated in these files.

In the last week alone, 22 criminal cases were settled regarding possible fraud registered in the process of issuing vaccination certificates and certificates. 26 people are being investigated in these files.

There are indications of a new modus operandi being used to defraud the process of issuing and using EU digital certificates.

Thus, recently, as more and more family doctors received free rapid tests for the detection of COVID-19 from the Ministry of Health, some of them would falsify the test results for certain patients, falsely certifying that they are infected.

In this way, those patients get 14 days of paid sick leave and get the green certificate, even though they were not actually infected.

Controls were started at the level of the Public Health Directorates to identify such situations, which are also under the attention of the police.

We are making a new appeal to citizens and economic operators to show responsibility and respect health protection measures.

We recommend that people who have not yet been vaccinated against the SARS-CoV-2 virus do so.

Those who have doubts about the vaccine are encouraged to document themselves from official sources, including from the National Information Platform on vaccination against COVID-19 – https://vaccinare-covid.gov.ro/ and from the official pages ROVaccination from social media accounts.

In the Capital, this weekend the vaccination marathons continue in the eight centers that operate with extended hours. If needed, SMURD volunteers will provide support in the triage areas and in the spaces intended for post-vaccination monitoring.

Such actions are also carried out at the national level, so that any person who wants to get vaccinated can do so."
