Valeriu Gheorghita: The New Official Decision Before Wave 5

Valeriu Gheorghita announced a very important official decision that Romania takes before the start of the 5th wave in the whole country, and this is because the authorities decided to give up the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine to immunize the population after the Romanians started to avoid the serum.

Valeriu Gheorghita says that the decision is taken due to the fact that the number of people who choose to be vaccinated with this serum is very low and unused doses end up being thrown away, so Romania will rely mainly on Pfizer BioNTech, Johnson & Johnson and Moderna vaccines to immunize people.

"I repeat, at the moment there are no doses available for the vaccine from the AstraZeneca company. We are going to receive the next tranche precisely to ensure the completion of the vaccination schedule for people who have had dose one and who need to complete their vaccination schedule.

As we informed you last week, in the CNCAV meeting that we had the previous week, the decision was unanimously taken to propose to the Ministry of Health that we abandon the vaccine from the AstraZeneca company from January 2022, taking into account the fact that it is a very small number of people getting vaccinated with this type of vaccine at national level. Taking into account the fact that the vials are multidose, with ten doses, and the percentage of doses that are sacrificed is very high, even then, from the point of view of cost efficiency and stock management, this was the proposal that we addressed to the Ministry of Health.

The most are vaccination clinics that use the vaccine from the Pfizer company – 816, followed by centers that use the vaccine from the Johnson&Johnson company – 153, the vaccine from the Moderna company – 118 and AstraZeneca – 32 streams.

Also, if we look at vaccination in family medicine offices, at the moment there are 3.142 family doctors who vaccinate in their own offices, with a similar rural-urban distribution, about 50%, and, until November 22 , more than 868.000 people were vaccinated in family medicine offices, an increase of about 5% compared to the previous week."
