Valeriu Gheorghita: Last Hour Message to Millions of Romanians

Valeriu Gheorghita sends a last-minute message to millions of Romanians in the country, but also from abroad, the military doctor warning everyone about the very big problem of the Omicron variant, which is spreading extremely quickly in various areas of Europe, and not no more.

Valeriu Gheorghita tells all Romanians to be extremely vigilant in front of this new variant of the virus, and this is because it is extremely contagious, it can infect even vaccinated or cured people, and those without protection have the greatest risk of serious forms.

"It seems that the Omicron variant no longer behaves differently with regards to the injection depending on the status of the respective person, i.e. if they have been vaccinated, or passed through the disease, as such it has an important capacity to generate a very large number of injections, even if we hope the aggressiveness is not increased, but lower than the Delta version.

This is not necessarily reassuring, because a number of at least 2.5 times more illnesses is obviously associated with a much larger number of serious cases, because it will not only affect vulnerable people, the elderly , with chronic conditions, which are not protected because either they did not get the disease or they were not vaccinated.

In the current situation, we are talking about an extremely contagious variant that spreads extremely easily, and people who are unprotected will have a risk of developing a serious form if they have those risk factors, so it is very important to take into account vaccination as an important measure to reduce the risk of developing a serious form.

What we have observed up to this moment is that all the forms of the disease given by the Omicron variant are mild, or asymptomatic, and have appeared in vaccinated people, the majority, at least the cases from Europe who have a history of traveling to South Africa, or the people who had previously been infected.

Compared to the Delta variant, it is not more virulent. We expected and expected it to be less virulent. We are concerned that it is more transmissible, and we have data confirming that it bypasses the immune response, and for these reasons CEDC estimates that in the coming months this variant will become dominant in Europe."
