The situation of detected COVID-19 infections January 17, 2022

The situation of infections generated by COVID-19, and revealed on January 17, 2022, is presented below by the Ministry of Health, so that we have a clearer picture of how the increase in the number of new cases affects Romania at the moment.

COVID-19 situation in the last 24 hours:

  • 8.118 new infections with SARS CoV 2;
  • 17 people died.

 At the moment:

  • 4.027 people are hospitalized in the wards, of which 338 are children;
  • 485 people are hospitalized in ATI, of which 21 are children;

Of the 485 people hospitalized in ATI, 433 (89.3%) are people who do not have a certificate attesting to vaccination.

Vaccination remains the best solution for protection against COVID-19!

By vaccination against COVID-19:

- the risk of infection is reduced;
- the risk of virus transmission is reduced;
– the risk of hospitalization is considerably reduced;
- the risk of death is considerably reduced.

Of the total of 17 deceased patients, only 6 occurred in vaccinated persons, age groups 50-59 years and over 80 years, having associated comorbidities.

In the last 24 hours, 10.033 RT-PCR tests (6.244 based on case definition and medical protocol and 3.789 on request) and 24.284 rapid antigen tests were performed."
