Formula E Car Safety Surprise Officially Announced

Formula E is the most important sport in which fully electric vehicles are exclusively involved, the races having lco on street circuits in cities such as London, Mexico City, Seoul, Berlin, or New York. The first race in the world took place in 2014 in Beijing, and was won by the driver di Grassi, and the championship that year was won by Nelson Piquet jr., the son of the legendary Formula 1 driver Nelson Piquet.

It is worth knowing that the engines of the electric cars participating in the Formula E championship are supplied by major car manufacturers, such as Mercedes, Audi or BMW.

For the 2022 season, the new safety car in the Formula E circuit will be the Porsche Taycan Turbo S, a fully electric sedan that will debut on January 28-29 at the Diriyah circuit in Saudi Arabia. The new car from Porsche has been transformed into a safety car, requiring the installation of bumpers in which flashing lights are integrated, and the installation of clamshell racing seats with six-point seat belts.

The new Porsche Taycan Turbo S is equipped with two electric motors that develop 761 horsepower, and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2,8 seconds, reaching a maximum speed of 260 km/h. Thus, this car is the best choice for a safety car that works in the only World Championship in which exclusively electric cars are used.

Porche Taycan Turbo S is painted in several shades of colors, which represent the colors of the 11 teams competing in the championship, but also the colors characteristic of Formula E and the International Automobile Federation (FIA).

"We are proud that Formula E has entrusted a Porsche with this task, one that is important for the safety of its drivers. With the Porsche Taycan Turbo S as the official safety car, we make an important contribution to the safety of the tracks, and also underline the importance of Formula E for Porsche Motorsport. More than that, we hope that in the future we will attract as many young people as possible who are not yet fans of motor sports." says Thomas Laundebach, Vice President of Porsche Motorsport.
