The Romanian Naval Forces participated in Open Spirit 2022 and Eodex 2022

The Romanian Naval Forces participated in OPEN SPIRIT 2022 and EODEX 2022 in the recent period, the authorities stating that two officers were present at the international operations that were carried out between May 6 and 20, 2022 in Lithuania.

"The Romanian Naval Forces participated in OPEN SPIRIT 2022 and EODEX 2022. The Romanian Naval Forces participated with two officers, between May 6-20, in the international operation to search for and detonate explosive devices OPEN SPIRIT 2022 and in the international Exercise to destroy of explosive devices EODEX 2022, in the port of Klaipeda, Lithuania.

OPEN SPIRIT and EODEX were organized and coordinated by the Lithuanian Naval Forces, in its territorial waters and exclusive economic zone, and this year 13 ships, nine teams of EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) divers and specialists are taking part in the training sequences from 14 NATO member countries: Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the United States of America.

The established multinational naval force was coordinated by a Task Group, within which the aspirant Sturzu Valentin-Alexandru from the 146th Division Mine-Sweeping Ships and the lieutenant Lazăr Mihai Cătălin from the 175th Division Combat Divers carried out their activity.

OPEN SPIRIT 2022 represents the continuous effort of the Baltic states - Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia - by successively taking over the command of the operation, to search and detonate the mines left after the Second World War, but also of other explosive devices in the Baltic Sea, in common with NATO partners."
