Thracian Viper 2022 Romania Participates New NATO Air Executions

Thracian Viper 2022 is currently taking place in Bulgaria, and NATO forces from the host country, together with air forces from Greece, Canada, Romania, and the USA, are participating in air exercises that will last until August 19, all with the idea of increases the interoperability between the forces of the allied countries.

During the war in Ukraine, NATO carried out many exercises with allied countries, and Romania participated in some of them with various soldiers or military equipment, and as these types of exercises continue, Romania could participate with various forces.

"On August 8, 2022, the crews of the Bulgarian Air Force (BAF) began to perform tasks in the framework of the joint flight training "Thracian Viper - 2022". The forces and means of the Air Forces of Greece, Canada, Romania and the United States of Europe will participate in the training.

Within two weeks, from August 8 to August 19, 2022, joint flights will be conducted in Bulgarian airspace, carrying out tasks specific to the aviation and air defense sectors, the complexity of which will increase with the progress of the training. Their main objective is related to the preparation of forces for joint participation in coalition operations.

On the Bulgarian side, military personnel from the command, control and surveillance base, crews of MiG-29 fighters from Graf Ignatievo Air Base, crews of Su-25 aircraft from Bezmer Air Base and crews of AS-532 Cougar helicopters from Krumovo Base Airline patrician in training and must perform aeromedical evacuation tasks.

Air defense formations from the Air Force and the Land Force also participate in the training.

The F-18 planes of the Royal Canadian Air Force will operate from the territory of Romania, our neighbor to the north. The Romanian and Greek air forces with their F-16 aircraft will perform take-off and landing flights at their permanent bases.

US Air Force personnel will provide aviation operations at the Elena training area.

The joint exercise "Thracian Viper" has been held annually since 2010 and provides opportunities for the air forces of the participating nations to generate rich experience under conditions of real interaction in an international environment."
