The Minister of Defense had discussions in the context of the war in Ukraine, and this is because there are many problems generated both for Romania and for Germany, by what is happening in Ukraine, and both countries participate in NATO's joint effort to deter Russia regarding the expansion of the war beyond Ukrainian territory.

"Today, I met with the Federal Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius, and the Minister of State in the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tobias Lindner, during the visit I made to the Federal Republic of Germany. The discussions focused on the complex security situation in the Black Sea area, with an emphasis on the regional and global effects of the war of aggression carried out by the Russian Federation in Ukraine.

Regarding cooperation within NATO, I conveyed to my counterpart my appreciation for Germany's constant contribution to the implementation of deterrence and defense measures in the Black Sea region, and I welcomed the participation of the German Air Force in the consolidated air police missions in Romania.

We agreed that it is very important to continue joint bilateral and multinational exercises, both in Romania and in Germany, and to intensify cooperation in the field of training and the defense industry. The importance of continuing international support for Ukraine was highlighted, condemning the indiscriminate rocket attacks on Ukrainian towns, which cause many civilian casualties.

Regarding cooperation at the level of the European Union, the discussions specifically focused on initiatives in the field of defense, with Romania and Germany having similar positions regarding the way to consolidate the Security and Defense Policy of the European Union. In this context, the importance of capitalizing on industrial collaboration opportunities under the auspices of the European Defense Fund (EDF) and joint procurement was highlighted. At the same time, the discussions also focused on support for strengthening the resilience of the Eastern Neighborhood states.

At the same time, the officials emphasized the importance of signing the latest Joint Declaration on NATO-EU cooperation, on January 10, a document that further strengthens the strategic partnership between the two organizations. In a bilateral context, good cooperation was highlighted in areas such as military education, military history, the openness to increase the level of cooperation in the technical-military field and the availability regarding the resumption of political-military discussions, as an essential tool for the identification and implementation of practical cooperation activities."
