A very interesting physical keyboard for the iPhone

TK-421 is a case model for the iPhone that includes a physical QWERTY keyboard for all those who wanted such a keyboard on their iPhone. As you can see in the images above, the keyboard has a very interesting opening mechanism and is positioned in such a way that it practically becomes a kind of stand for the iPhone. Unfortunately, the thickness of the phone increases several times if you install this case and as far as I can see, you cannot take pictures with the phone as long as the keyboard is "hidden" in the case mechanism. The case connects via BlueTooth to the phone, so you will not need absolutely any cable and it will be compatible with iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, and the iPhone 3G will remain "on the shelf" because it does not have BlueTooth support in iOS 4.

Although this case is currently in the concept stage, the company that designed it is preparing for mass production and the price is estimated at around $50. I have never been a fan of physical keyboards and this concept does not appeal to me in any way, but if you are interested, you can put money aside for its release.

Here are the main functions of the case:

  • Give your iPhone a real flip-out tactile keyboard
  • The keyboard flips out for use, then flips back in when done
  • Magnet based clasp keeps the keyboard in position whether flipped in or out
  • Increased typing accuracy and speed
  • Works with any app such as e-mail, web browsing, notes, and calendar
  • Completely wireless Bluetooth™ connection does not use dock connector
  • Keyboard powered by built in rechargeable battery, recharges via included USB cable
  • Invented and designed here at ThinkGeek
  • Models available to fit iPhone 3Gs and iPhone 4
  • (Please note that the iPhone 3G will NOT work with this case. The OS does not support Bluetooth™ keyboards.)
