Android Market could surpass AppStore by August 2011

The Android Market has registered a substantial increase in the last period, the application store of those from Google is going to reach the figure of 300.000 available in less than a month. In April, no less than 28.000 apps appeared in the Android Market, 17.000 more than Apple approved in the AppStore. In April, Apple started a rather tough fight against applications that do not meet certain criteria for approval in the AppStore, but also changed the application classification system.

On the contrary, the success of an app store is negatively correlated to the success of an average developer. All analysis on the early months of an app store including the Android Market shows that average download numbers decrease dramatically after the first months or even weeks after the launch of the store. The long tail gets longer and longer while the top 5% gets richer and richer.

According to one statistics companies from the USA, the Android Market would be the last to reach the AppStore, and in August the 2 application stores would each have 425.000 applications available. This will be the point where the Android Market will reach the AppStore, following which the number of applications in the Android Market will continue to grow at the same sustained rate. Unfortunately, most of the applications in both stores are more than useless, something that none of us can deny.

The bad part for Apple is that it will no longer be able to boast of the largest application store, the bad part for Google is that it will have much more to "clean" through the Android Market.
