Video: In 2012, mobile phone operators in Romania could be forced to decode mobile phones for free

At the moment in Romania, Cosmote is the only mobile operator that sells decoded phones and here, of course, we also include iPhone terminals. Orange and Vodafone encode their terminals and ask for various amounts for decoding, regardless of whether you are in the contract period or not. However, decoding a mobile phone is free in Romania only if you bought the device at full price or standard price and the operator is obliged by law to decode your terminal at no additional cost.

In 2012, the same thing could happen REQUIRED operators, but only for terminals that are no longer in the contractual period. Basically, if you bought an iPhone with a subscription, you will be able to decode it for free only after the contractual period of that subscription expires, but not during the subscription. The idea is good, but it is far from great because it does not oblige mobile phone operators to sell decoded terminals, as happens in Italy, for example. Of course, for now the law is only in the draft stage and even if it is promulgated, it will not change things much.
