iPad 3 with Retina Display – the problem of application developers and the disappointment of users

As the I told you here too, the implementation of a Retina Display in the iPad 3 tablet is almost certain and Apple gave us a hint in this regard when posted a message on its portal dedicated to iOS application developers. Apple requires them to publish only Retina Ready screenshots for the applications in the App Store and this change could be related to the new iPad tablet. When the iPhone 4 with Retina Display was launched, Apple announced that all existing applications would work without problems on the new terminal, even though it had a double resolution. Now Apple should prepare to do exactly the same thing with the iPad 3 tablet, where the resolution of 2048 x 1536 is theoretically double (practically 4 times higher) than that of the iPad and would allow existing applications to run without problems. Considering that the resolution of the iPhone 4 is very close to that of the iPad, the inclusion of only Retina Ready screenshots is absolutely natural.

However, Apple will implement to everyone the idea that Retina Ready applications for iPad 3 will look exceptional on the new tablet screen and this is where the role of application developers comes into play. When the iPhone 4 was released, few managed to update their graphics in the applications for the new screen of the device and the same thing will happen with the iPad 3. Apple will introduce the technology, we will be amazed, the websites will look much better but 99% between the applications will look exactly the same. Even if Apple will introduce the Retina Display in the iPad 3, users will be able to enjoy HD graphics on their tablet as soon as iOS application developers start to introduce it into applications and this process will be long-term and not really so cheap.

The development of graphic elements at 2048×1536 resolution requires time and money, so I expect that only in the summer we will have a considerable number of Retina Ready applications for the iPad 3 tablet. More than that, expect these applications to be more more expensive than the rest because the work of restoring the graphics for the new screen will be borne by the users and until the end of the year, when many applications will be Retina Ready for iPad 3, the prices of the new applications will be quite high.

In conclusion, the Retina Display for iPad 3 promises to be great, but don't expect to be amazed by it in any iOS application right from the start.
