Apple included in iOS 6 the option to make FaceTime calls using a data connection, EDGE/GPRS or 3G, and depending on the speed you get a good video stream, or just an audio feed. To check the number of MB consumed during a FaceTime call through a 3G data network, those from iphoneitaly they did a test in which they made a 4-minute FaceTime call. The results are as follows: download traffic 6 MB, upload traffic 05 MB, and in total we have 6,48 MB consumed for 12,53 minutes of FaceTime.
Doing a simple calculation, we find that every minute of FaceTime will consume 3 MB of Internet traffic, a figure that may not be acceptable to many. If you make FaceTime calls often, then you have to take into account the fact that in just 13 minutes you consume 30 MB of traffic but also approximately 100% of the battery according to the same test. In iOS 6 you will be able to make FaceTime calls using an EDGE/GPRS/3G connection only on iPhone 4S or iPad 3 tablet.
