Apple recommends developers to double the icon resolution for applications dedicated to the iOS platform

Recently the company Apple asked them developers of applications for iDevices to send from July for iconic applications that have a minimum resolution of 1024 x 1024 pixels. At the moment the recommended resolution would be 512 x 512 pixels, but starting next month it will be double and the change could have two main reasons. The first is related to the Retina Display of the iPad 3 tablet, which has a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, so 4 times higher than the recommended resolution for icons, and the second reason could be related to a possible increase in resolution screen of the iPhone 5 terminal.

Starting in July, newly submitted iOS apps require high-resolution icons and cover art. Large icons and Newsstand cover art must have a minimum resolution of 1024 x 1024 pixels. To change your app icons or cover art, go to the Manage Your Applications module on iTunes Connect. For more information, see the Custom Icon and Image Creation Guidelines in the iOS Developer Library.

Rumor has it 1136 x 640 would be the resolution of the future iPhone, it is more than double the one recommended for icons, so the informative note sent by Apple seems to have logic. Now, of course, no one knows what the final goal of those from Cupertino is, but it is clear that from July the new applications will have icons with a much better resolution.
