Tomorrow Google will release Street View for the mobile version of Google Maps

I told you that the mobile version of Google Maps will soon have a Street View module incorporated and here's how tomorrow Google intends to launch it officially. Walt Mossberg managed to test for Wall Street Journal the system before the launch, he was pleasantly impressed by the way everything works, and in the video clip below you have a demonstration of his experience. The mobile version of Google Maps does not run that well in browsers, there are performance problems on old iDevices, but the implementation here will allow you to include the system in the free applications already available in the App Store.

In fact, Google plans to announce on Thursday that it is adding its popular Street View feature, missing from Apple's maps, to the Web version of Google Maps accessed from the iPhone and iPad. I tested this addition, which displays 360-degree photographic street views of selected locations, and interior photographic views of certain businesses, using sample links Google sent me. These links worked well, allowing me to see the locations and pan around with a finger.

The mobile Street View will work on iOS, Android OS and any other mobile terminals, but Mossberg claims that Google already has a Google Maps application for iOS in development. The information is not new, we heard it last week, we know that Google is in a hurry to develop something and everyone is waiting for the application to arrive as quickly as possible in the App Store. Until then, we have the mobile version of Google Maps that works in fullscreen, we have other free applications that do their job just as well, and if needed you can buy better applications.

Also, I believe Google is working on a new Google Maps app for the Apple platform, one that would be offered as an optional download.
