iOS 6 – the state of the jailbreak

Last weekend Dev Team released a very important version of redsn0w which brings iDevice owners the possibility to re-restore to iOS 5, the possibility of to downgrade from iOS 6 much easier and the possibility to update, jailbreak and hack to iOS 6 without updating the baseband. Unfortunately, the situation is not happy for all users, redsn0w running on iOS 6 based on old exploits, but hackers are working on developing a solution untethered jailbreak and they will release it as soon as possible.

Until then, I think many of you are interested in finding out if and how you can jailbreak for iOS 6, and this article will explain everything. I will consider ONLY iDevices that can install iOS 6, and if your terminal is not on the list, then it cannot install iOS 6.

  1. iPhone 3GS - you can do an untethered jailbreak if you have an old bootrom or a tethered jailbreak if you have a new bootrom, this tutorial being helpful to you. You can also update without updating the baseband, this tutorial being useful to you, but with the mention that you cannot use it on Windows.
  2. iPhone 4 - you can do tethered jailbreak, this tutorial being helpful to you. You can also update without updating the baseband, this tutorial being useful, but with the mention that you cannot use it on Windows.
  3. iPhone 4S – you cannot jailbreak, you cannot install iOS 6 keeping the baseband intact.
  4. iPhone 5 - there is currently no jailbreak solution.
  5. iPad 2 (regardless of the model) – there is currently no jailbreak solution.
  6. iPad 3 - there is currently no jailbreak solution.
  7. iPod Touch 4G - you can do tethered jailbreak, this tutorial being helpful to you.
  8. iPod Touch 5G - there is currently no jailbreak solution.

Probably next month, or at the latest in December, we will have an untethered jailbreak solution for all iDevices, but until then you have to be patient.
