Some say that the future is mobile phones with flexible screens and the truth is that there is an increasing interest in bringing such devices to the market. However, until there is an agglomeration of the market with phones whose screens can be bent in any way and shape, we might witness a revolution in the way devices are built. Morpheus may be a phone of the future that could change its shape depending on the user's desire, or the way a certain application is designed.

A Morphee is a self-actuated flexible mobile device that addresses the multiple affordances desired by any application and transforms itself into desired shapes. We envision that app stores can potentially evolve to give developers opportunities to create practical applications with their specific form factors. We compare six actuation strategies of Morphees, five using advanced technologies in morphing materials: Dielectric Electro Active Polymers (DEAP) and Shape Memory Alloys (SMA).

Morpheus it is the result of the research of a group of employees of the University of Bristol, Great Britain, and practically the terminals are built with special materials that allow rethinking its forms. If you watch the video clip above you will understand exactly what it is about and at first glance you quickly notice that it is not so simple to transform a fixed terminal into a device capable of metamorphosis. Despite the interesting concepts, it is hard to guess if such terminals will ever reach the market, but at least we know that somewhere, someone is trying, once again, to revolutionize the world of smartphones.
