Apple removes antivirus and antimalware applications from the App Store

iOS malware

iOS is one of the most secure platforms for mobile terminals, hackers preferring to avoid the operating system because the restrictions imposed by Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), for applications they make it extremely difficult to operate the devices. Despite this, various companies that develop antivirus and antimalware software have launched applications in the App Store that warn us about various dangers on the Internet, they have nothing to clean considering that iOS cannot really be infected.

These applications were for a long time available in the App Store, but recently the Apple company decided to remove them from its store, and those from Intego they are the first which announces the withdrawal of its own application from the Cupertino store. Intego claims that the reason for the withdrawal of its own application is the intention of those from Apple to stop distributing antivirus or antimalware applications in its store, probably in order not to generate the false impression that iDevices can be infected with such software by hackers.

Apple has elected to eliminate the category of anti-virus and anti-malware products from their iOS App Store. As a result of this decision, our product VirusBarrier iOS is no longer available for sale. All of our existing VirusBarrier iOS customers will continue to get their virus definition updates as they have been for as long as they own the product. These updates do not go through the App Store and are not affected.

Considering that there are no viruses from which we must be protected, the distribution or, worse, the sale of this type of application made no sense in the App Store, so it will be interesting to see how big companies will react to these actions. In the past Apple also withdrew the application of the Romanian company Bitdefender after this revealed the fact that certain applications can count locations or other data of the terminals.
