10 Pegatron employees sentenced to prison for theft

Pegatron employees convicted of theft10 Pegatron employees were sentenced to prison for stealing iPhones and components dedicated to the assembly of iPhone terminals for the company Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC),, the total amount of damage being estimated at 154.000 dollars.

According to the authorities in China, the 10 employees of Pegatron stole 227 iPhones, 360 motherboards and 58 batteries that were supposed to be used for Apple products, so we are talking about a very high value for the crime of Apple partner employees .

Six of the 10 employees were permanent and most likely worked on the assembly lines, while another 4 worked in the canteen that served the complex with food, some iPhones were initially hidden in a bathroom of the Pegatron factory, they were taken over by there by employees of the canteen.

The 227 iPhone cases, 360 motherboards and 58 batteries were stolen between June 2014 and January 2015, so we are talking about a continuous form of theft that was severely punished by Chinese justice, mainly because of the organized form and the value of the damage.

SIX staffers of a local Apple contract manufacturer and four of its canteen workers were sentenced 8 months to 7 years in jail by a local court today for working together to steal more than 200 iPhones and accessories from the company's assembly line and sell them outside. They were accused of theft, embezzlement and concealing illicit gains.

According to the sentence given by the court, the 10 employees received prison sentences ranging from 8 months to 10 years, the prosecutors initially sending them to court for committing the crimes of theft, embezzlement and tax evasion, the penalties being high.

Although the punishments will probably be considered justified by those at Apple, it is surprising how the whole operation was possible for such a long period of time and Apple will probably ask Pegatron to strengthen their security measures in the factories in the future .
