Prepaid cards from Romania were used by terrorists in the preparation of attacks

In a week in which Belgium was the target of terrorist attacks that resulted in dozens of deaths, Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos revealed the fact that in the past some terrorists used prepaid cards Romanians to prepare terrorist attacks in Europe.

Ciolos did not provide details about the operator or operators from whom the needles were bought prepaid cards nor the attacks that would have been prepared by terrorists, but he says that Romania is one of the few countries in Europe where cards are sold without identification documents.

If you have traveled through Europe in recent years, then you know for sure that in most EU countries you cannot buy prepaid cards without providing an identity document before, that card being linked to your document after purchase.

Considering this legislative gap in Romania, Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos stated that there will be a change in legislation that will make it impossible to buy prepaid cards as easily as before.

I understand that Romania is one of the few countries in the EU that sells pre-pay cards without an identity check. I understand that pre-pay cards from Romania were even used in the preparation of attacks elsewhere in the EU precisely because there is this flexibility in Romania. There are some things that will be discussed in the next period. The Ministers of Justice and the Interior will come up with a note in the Government with these elements and will be subject to public debate.
