Apple spent $10 billion on research in 2016

Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), puts a lot of emphasis on innovation, so in 2016 it invested no less than 10 billion dollars in research and development, a colossal figure for any kind of company. The figure is a record for the Apple company, because until now it has never invested so much money in a project of this kind carried out within its divisions.

In Q3 2016, Apple invested 2.57 billion dollars in research and development, 550 dollars more than in the same period last year. Per rotal, the figure represents 5% of the company's receipts for the fiscal quarter that just ended, and based on this trend, expenses of this kind would increase in the future.

In fiscal year 2015, the Apple company spent 8.1 billion dollars on research and development, so we are talking about a 25% increase in expenses of this kind. In relation to the total receipts for the fiscal year 2016, research expenses represent 5% of the total, two percent more than what Apple allocates in 2013 and 2014.

Apple has seriously increased its expenses for research and development in recent years, projects such as the smart car needing very large amounts to be developed.
