Although the iPhone 7 Plus has a dual camera, only the wide-angle one has optical stabilization, the telephoto one has only digital stabilization, so it does not offer a great experience. In the iPhone 8 things will change, Apple intends to implement optical stabilization for both cameras that will be implemented in its new smartphone.
In order to be able to provide optical stabilization for the telephoto camera, Apple should rethink the dual camera of the iPhone 8 to a good extent by next year. With optical stabilization implemented for both image sensors of the dual camera in iPhone 8, Apple can offer a much better experience for recording photos.
If it implements optical stabilization for the dual camera of the iPhone 8, Apple could also improve the available optical zoom system. In this idea, the iPhone 8 Plus could do optical zoom at a greater distance than the iPhone 7 Plus, but of course for now there are no clear details about what will be offered to us.
iPhone 8 will have optical stabilization in both cameras
As you probably already know, the Apple company will implement a dual camera in only two of the three iPhone 8 models, so the model with a 4.7-inch screen will still remain without it. This was to be expected, considering that this component is expensive, and the price of the base model would have to increase significantly to cover its implementation.
"We believe Apple will add OIS function to the telephoto CCM in order to enhance the selling points of next year's new iPhone. We think photo quality and optical zoom range may both improve as a result. We expect the telephoto lens will be redesigned to support OIS in the telephoto CCM, with challenges likely coming from: (1) the need to increase the image circle of the telephoto lens, which will lead to longer calibration time and a more complex assembly processes ; and (2) a redesign of the telephoto lens, as an increased image circle will result in degraded photo quality around the corners."
