The Galaxy Note 7 will be completely unusable in the US

The Galaxy Note 7 will have charging and mobile functionality disabled by Samsung through an update that will be released in the US this month.

As a last resort to convince the current owners of Galaxy Note 7 to give up the terminals they still own, Samsung is preparing a new update for terminals. This will be launched on December 19 in the USA and will completely block the loading of the terminals, but also the connection to the mobile phone networks in the country.

The update will be distributed in 30 days by the operators and will make all Galaxy Note 7 terminals completely useless, if the update is installed by the owners. Samsung has already limited the charging of the Galaxy Note 7 to 60% for Americans, and from December 19 it will completely disable charging for them, as well as the mobile phone function.

With this move, Samsung hopes to finally convince the last owners of these terminals to give them up in exchange for other products from its offer. Samsung says that 93% of the Galaxy Note 7 terminals sold in the US have been returned, but 133.000 terminals are still in the hands of some users.

Apart from this update, Samsung will also intensify its communication efforts with the people who have not returned their terminals, in order to convince them to do so. Samsung has repeatedly tried to convince Americans to return their devices, but those who haven't yet could refuse to install this update and continue using them.

"Together with our carrier partners, we will be notifying consumers through multiple touchpoints to encourage any remaining Galaxy Note7 owners to participate in the program and to take advantage of the financial incentives available. This update will prevent US Galaxy Note 7 devices from charging and will eliminate their ability to work as mobile devices."
