Prometheus downgrades iOS on iPhone and iPad

Prometheus can downgrade iOS on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch on terminals that have a jailbreak previously made by the user available.

Prometheus is a new program that is in the development process and that will allow us to downgrade iOS on iPhone and iPad as we like. This is going to be the first real downgrade solution for iOS released in recent years, Prometheus is going to work with almost all iDevices that have a 64-bit chip, at least in the beginning.

Prometheus uses an existing vulnerability in the iOS operating system and allows us to install a version of the operating system even if it is no longer signed by Apple. Prometheus also uses a new type of SHSHs called .shsh2, so if you have saved any SHSH until now, it is useless with this future program.

In the video clip below you have a detailed explanation on using Prometheus in OS X, but the program is now also available for Windows or Linux. In order for Prometheus to work, it is necessary that the terminal is already jailbroken, so only those who are still running iOS 9.x can use it to save SHSHs, but only for versions iOS 10.1, iOS 10.1.1 or iOS 10.2.

The existence of an active jailbreak is not the only requirement for Prometheus to function, the program also needs a certain variable activated in the terminals. More precisely, it is necessary that the tfp0, or host_get_special_port, variable has been activated by jailbreak, and unfortunately not all jailbroken terminals have it, although iOS 9.1 activates it, and this method of restarting iOS 9.3.3 does the same.

Although Prometheus can now save .shsh2 files for iOS 10 users, only if they have a jailbreak, it is hard to say if the restore will still be possible without a jailbreak. The whole procedure of Prometheus is based on the existence of a jailbreak on the users' terminals, which makes it mostly useless at the moment, but not in the future.

To be completely honest, I don't know if Prometheus will ever reach its true potential due to the limitations that exist at the moment, but the solution must be considered. from this page you can download Prometheus for Windows, Linux or OS X, but if you don't have iOS 9.x and a jailbreak, you won't be able to use it.
