The first portable air monitoring gadget

Although the idea of an application that allows us to "see what we smell" sounds unpleasant at first, we discover that it can prove to be something very useful.

Air pollution is a serious problem around the world, although it is often difficult to truly know the quality of the air we are breathing at any given moment. That could be about to change thanks to an exciting new device launched this month on Kickstarter that connects to your smartphone and feeds data to its companion app.

Developed by a two-person team based outside of Silicon Valley, Sprimo allows you to check air quality at any time and in any place, regardless of whether you are indoors or outdoors. All you have to do is take your smartphone, connect the Sprimo application and open the application. Sprimo prides itself on state-of-the-art gas detector technology capable of detecting thousands of volatile organic compounds.

A simple touch is enough for the application to offer you interactive mapping of local and regional air quality readings, so that you can check the readings beyond your vicinity. Made of durable and high-impact ABS material and stainless steel, the diminutive device requires no power source and is cable-free. The first version is for iPhone only, although an Android model is also in development.

The Kickstarter developers offer a Sprimo, promising to deliver the product starting in July.
