Google Pixel 2 – Technology Missing from iPhone X

Google Pixel 2 has a world-first technology that should have been implemented in the iPhone X as well, if Apple had collaborated with telecom operators.

Google Pixel 2 has a technology that is missing from the iPhone X, but which was implemented by the Apple company in Watch Apple 3 this year and which will be extended to other products in the future. The Google Pixel 2 was presented last night by the Google company together with the Google Pixel 2 XL, the phones having quite a lot of interesting news, some of them even for the first time for mobile phones, some of them better than the iPhone.

Google Pixel 2 is the first phone from the Google company that has an integrated eSIM, so users do not have to insert a normal SIM card into it, but choose the desired operator from the phone's menu, something that the iPhone X should have. Thanks to these eSIMs, Google Pixel 2 users will be able to connect to GSM networks as easily as to Wi-Fi ones, something many would have wanted in the iPhone X.

Google Pixel 2 has eSIM support for some partners of the Google company, their customers only having to choose their own subscription from the phone's settings menu and nothing more. Choosing the right subscription is done after logging in with the user name in the website of the operator with which the Google Pixel 2 is used, the GSM connection being activated instantly, and Apple would have wanted to offer something similar in the iPhone X.

Google Pixel 2 – the technology missing from iPhone X

Google Pixel 2 has integrated support for both standard nano SIM cards and eSIM, and this is because there are few operators that offer support for them. Apple managed to convince the major mobile phone operators in the US to offer eSIM support for the Apple Watch 3, but the Google Pixel 2 does not have it for now, although it will have it, which is one of the reasons why the iPhone X does not have the technology.

Google Pixel 2 could not be launched only with support for eSIM because its purchase in the US would not have allowed its use in another country where the technology is not supported by operators. In this idea, even the Apple Watch 3 was only launched in some countries where Apple collaborated with telecom operators for eSIM support, the Google Pixel 2 going to have the same thing, in contrast to what we have on the iPhone X.

"This means you no longer need to go to a store to get a SIM card for wireless service, wait a few days for your card to arrive in the mail, or fumble around with a bent paper clip to coax your SIM card into a tiny slot. Getting wireless service with eSIM is as quick as connecting your phone to Wi-Fi.”

Google Pixel 2 brings a small revolution for mobile phones thanks to these eSIM cards, but they are still very far from becoming an industry standard. However, it is gratifying to see that the Google Pixel 2 adopts new technologies that will be essential for smartphones in the future, since Apple has been wanting to offer this kind of support for the iPhone for years.
