iPhone XS: Apple wants to give up OLED, what models will it launch

iPhone XS comes with a completely unexpected surprise from the Apple company, the Americans have 4 new iPhone models at the moment, but only 3 will be launched.

iPhone XS is expected to replace the iPhone X in 2018, but rumors regarding the release of the new mobile phone are starting to get weirder and weirder lately, culminating in what we hear today. According to some information provided by an Asian publication, Apple has considered no less than 4 new iPhone models for this year, a iPhone 9, two iPhone XS models and one iPhone XS Plus model, but only 3 are to be released.

iPhone XS had two models designed by the Apple company, one with an LCD screen with a diagonal of 6-6.1 inches and an OLED screen with a diagonal of 6-6.1 inches, only one model will reach the market. According to some information that appeared today, the Apple company would like to launch a single model of the iPhone XS with a screen that has a diagonal of 6-6.1 inches, but it would not have an OLED screen, but an LCD screen, which is cheaper and easier to produce.

The iPhone XS with a 6-6.1 inch LCD screen would not be the only iPhone with an LCD screen this year because Apple wants to launch an iPhone 9 with a screen made of the same type of material, only that it will have a diagonal of 5.8 inches. The choice of LCD instead of OLED for iPhone 9 is as logical as possible because OLED would have increased the production price a lot, but the abandonment of OLED for iPhone XS is based on other motivations.

iPhone XS – Apple abandons OLED and chooses LCD screens

The iPhone XS Plus would be the only model of the iPhone that has an OLED screen, this phone will have a screen with a diagonal of 6.4 - 6.5 inches, so it will have the dimensions of an iPhone 8 Plus, only that it will have a much larger screen. Apple will include that 6.4-6.5 inch OLED screen in a case the size of the iPhone 8 Plus and will remove the Home button, still maintaining Face ID for facial recognition, the cutout will also be present.

"Apple has been developing four next-generation iPhone projects: a 5.7- to 5.8-inch LCD device; a 6.0- to 6.1-inch LCD device; a 6.0- to 6.1-inch OLED device; and a 6.4- to 6.5-inch OLED device. But the vendor is likely to eventually launch the two LCD phones and the 6.4- to 6.5-inch OLED one."

The iPhone XS, iPhone XS Plus and iPhone 9 will all have integrated Face ID, despite the different types of screens to be used, with Apple bringing the cutout including for LCD screens this year. The decision not to manufacture iPhone XS and iPhone XS Plus with OLED screens is most probably based on the fact that not enough screens can be bought for both models, but also that the price of the larger screen will be much higher.

iPhone XS and iPhone XS Plus are expected by Apple fans who believe that iPhone X needs a lot of improvements, but I think that the second model will be more sought after in Apple's offer after it is launched. To be completely honest, I think that Apple should also launch the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Plus with OLED screens, but everything depends on what the Americans will decide in the end, the situation being certainly much more complicated than it seems at first glance.
