This is how Apple wants to make the iPhone more water resistant

Apple plans to make iPhones more resistant to contact with water, catching up with its competitors in the Android segment, which offer something like this.

Apple iPhone Water Resistant

Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), is currently working on an update for iPhone which would make its phones more water resistant, or at least that's what a new patent suggests. According to him, the Apple company intends to improve the current Lightning connector for the iPhone and to change the way it is fixed on the case.

Apple makes this change for the Lightning port in the iPhone with the idea of improving the water resistance of its phones, which are now certified with the IP67 standard. Competing Android phones are certified with the IP68 standard, and Apple wants to offer the same to iPhone users by modifying the Lightning port.

Apple describes a method by which the Lightning port would be completely "sealed" and water would not enter it when a Lightning cable is connected to the iPhone by the user. The idea from Apple is interesting in that it would allow improving water resistance only when a Lightning cable is connected, not in other situations.

The iPhone needs water resistance in any kind of conditions of use, especially when it does not have a cable connected, but the Apple company seems to have another idea in development. It's hard to say when, or if, Apple will ever offer improved water resistance for the iPhone, but an IP68 certification would certainly be what many people want.
