ING the week started with big problems for some of the customers, who noticed that certain payments made over the weekend appeared doubled in the account statements, and the money was withdrawn from the current account balance. The problem started to be reported by customers right from the beginning of this morning, when many realized that money had disappeared from their accounts, which were allocated to those doubled payments following transactions made using ING cards.
ING has recognized the problem that affects an unknown number of customers at the moment, but in the meantime HomeBank for desktop and the mobile application, plus the Call Center have become partially functional. Those from ING claim that they have started to investigate the problem in order to be able to detect duplicate transactions that were registered for customers, the bank claiming that everyone will get their money back for duplicate transactions, but for now no clear period of time has been offered .
ING: PROBLEMS with Double Payments, HomeBank Partially Functional
ING is not the first to have this kind of problem, the clients going through similar problems and during August through a similar situation, when certain transactions made by them appeared duplicated, and the money disappeared from the accounts. Problems of this kind are extremely serious, but for now those from ING have not provided any information regarding the cause of this incident, but the important thing for now is that the clients' money be returned by the bank.
"Indeed, some of the clients can see the doubling of some of the transactions made over the weekend. We are working to remedy the situation and to return the amounts to the clients' accounts as soon as possible."
ING is one of the largest banks in Romania, with a substantial number of clients, but at the moment no one can access Homebank to see the transaction report, or perform other operations from desktop and mobile. Considering that ING did not offer a clear date for solving these problems, we can only wait and see when all the services will become functional again, and the money will return to our accounts, in the amount that disappeared after the problem appeared.
UPDATED: Here is what the people from ING said regarding the reason for the appearance of this problem.
"Some of ING's customers were able to see duplicate transactions in their account statement today. This is due to an operational error where some payment files settled today were processed twice. The error did not affect other ING services and systems in any way. Customers will be able to see the refunded amounts in their account by the end of the day. We apologize to customers who experienced difficulties with this and thank them for their understanding."
