STS. HOW MANY YEARS did it take to make the 112 Call Application

STS needed several years to implement a much more accurate location technology for Romania, here is what he said about this problem.

STS. HOW MANY YEARS did it take to make the 112 Call Application

STS created for Romania an application for mobile phones called Apel 112, which allows the use of AML technology to transmit geolocation data to 112 operators when Romanians call for help. Although the application Call 112 was launched during 2018, it could have been launched as early as 2015 or 2016, shortly after STS modernized the infrastructure used for 112, and it had the possibility to retrieve this information in calls.

STS was asked why it took more than 3 years to create the Apel 112 application, and the special technology used in it, and the answer was that it needed a long testing period "in safe conditions". What exactly this means is difficult to understand, just as difficult to understand how an institution like STS needs so many years to create an application like Apel 112, although in reality AML technology had to be implemented directly at 112.

STS he tested, tested, tested, tested until he got bored with the Call 112 application, and only now, after the death of a young woman seized in Caracal, he made the decision to implement AML and ELS support, but probably more forced by the Government. It is very difficult for everyone to understand why a service meant to save lives is administered in a defective way that instead of saving lives, lets them die without help.

"During the period you refer to, the Special Telecommunications Service carried out steps and tests in order to implement, under safe conditions, the two precise location methods developed internally by STS (HTML5 geolocation and the mobile application Call 112). Additional information regarding these steps can be found in the press release issued by STS on 28.07.2019, available on our institution's website."

STS went through a very big scandal a few years ago when a plane crashed in the mountains and the doctor who called 112 and asked for help from the authorities could not be located. In 2019, something similar happened, only in a city, but between these periods everything worked as if nothing had happened, without improvements, without the desire to do something really good for Romanians, and the Apel 112 application is far from being like that.

STS will implement the AML and ELS technologies for the 112 service, but everything will take a few months, at best, so it is not known when the Romanians will benefit from the exact location they were expecting.
