"In the context of the evolution of the epidemiological situation determined by the spread of COVID-19, the President of Romania, Mr. Klaus Iohannis, signed on Monday, March 16 this year, the decree regarding the establishment of the state of emergency on the territory of Romania for 30 days, the adopted measures can be found in the annex to this release.

Until today, March 16, 168 cases of people infected with the COVID-19 virus (coronavirus) have been confirmed in Romania. Of the 168 citizens who contacted the virus, 9 are declared cured and have been discharged.

Since the last information, 10 new cases have been confirmed, as follows: 4 in Bucharest, 2 in Ilfov and one each in Constanța, Teleorman, Neamț and Mureș.

All persons newly confirmed positive for COVID-19 are either contacts of positive cases or persons in quarantine. The 10 people are between the ages of 21 and 63.

On the territory of Romania, there are 3.078 people in institutionalized quarantine for whom checks are carried out to find out if they have contacted the COVID-19 virus (coronavirus). Another 14.845 people are in isolation at home and are under medical monitoring.
Up to this date, at the national level, 3.708 tests have been processed. Of these, 3.540 had a negative result, that is, the people from whom the analyzed samples were taken are not infected with COVID-19. The tests were processed in 7 health units in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara, Craiova, Iași and Constanța.

Until now, 36 criminal cases have been registered, under the aspect of committing the crime of thwarting the fight against diseases, an act provided for and punished by art. 352 para. 1 Criminal Code.

As of 16 March 2020, 51.771 cases have been reported in the EU/EEA, United Kingdom, Monaco, San Marino, Switzerland, Andorra. Most cases were recorded in Italy, France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom.


Coronavirus reached 158 cases of infection in Romania on March 15, 19 more than at the end of yesterday, the authorities publishing the first data this morning, and as many people expected, the numbers are increasing at the moment.

All 19 people were in quarantine or self-isolation when their test was confirmed, so theoretically they shouldn't have infected anyone, but yesterday there were 3500 tests in progress across the country, the vast majority from people who were in quarantine, so we will probably see more new cases.

Another 19 new cases of illness were registered, as follows: 4 in Arad, 3 in Ilfov, 2 in Vâlcea, 2 in Timișoara and one each in Bucharest, Cluj Napoca, Sălaj, Buzău, Ialomița, Hunedoara, Galați and Suceava.
The 19 detected people are aged between 19 and 54, are in quarantine or self-isolation. Still most of these new cases traveled to Italy, 2 of them to Austria and Germany.
People infected with COVID-19 (coronavirus) are admitted to hospitals in Bucharest, Iasi, Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara, Craiova and Constanța and are under permanent medical supervision. The general health of the patients is good.
