UPDATED: The Strategic Communication Group has now published new information on the number of people infected with the new Coronavirus in Romania, and we are talking about 260 confirmed cases so far.

"Until today, March 18, on the territory of Romania, 260 cases of people infected with the COVID-19 virus (coronavirus) have been confirmed. Of the 260 citizens who contacted the virus, 19 are declared cured and have been discharged.

Since the last information, 14 new cases have been confirmed, as follows: 7 in Bucharest, 3 in Brașov, 2 in Constanța, one each in Maramureș and Dolj.

All persons newly confirmed positive for COVID-19 are either contacts of positive cases or persons in quarantine. The newly confirmed patients range in age from 2 years to 57 years.

On the territory of Romania, there are 3.510 people in institutionalized quarantine for whom checks are carried out to detect whether they have contacted the COVID-19 (coronavirus) virus. Another 26.545 people are in isolation at home and are under medical monitoring.

Up to this date, at the national level, 4.670 tests have been processed. Of these, 4.410 had a negative result, that is, the people from whom the analyzed samples were taken are not infected with COVID-19. The tests were processed in 8 health units in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara, Craiova, Iași and Constanța, including the Cantacuzino Institute.

There are currently 3.746 molecular diagnostic tests (Real Time PCR) in the stock of the health units that carry out the diagnosis. We mention that SC Unifarm SA permanently purchases and distributes diagnostic tests to health facilities, on an order basis.

Until now, 51 criminal files have been drawn up by the competent structures of the MAI, under the aspect of committing the crime of thwarting the fight against diseases, an act provided for and punished by art. 352 para. 1 Criminal Code.

Also, the health inspectors from the public health departments imposed fines in the amount of 1.835.000 lei to a number of 120 people for non-compliance with the self-isolation measure.

It's 10:00 a.m., so we have new official information on the number of infections registered for the Coronavirus in Romania, the figures coming from the Ministry of Health through the Strategic Communication Group, which has so far provided all the important information about the pandemic.

Yesterday, 217 cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Romania, 49 more than the previous day, 22 of them being medical staff of the Gerota hospital, where the former policeman who allegedly infected more than 50 people is hospitalized, according to some calculations of the press.

At the same time, following the notification of the border police from the Cluj-Napoca airport, based on the Order of the Minister of Health no. 7 of 11.03.2020, the Public Health Directorate ordered the stoppage of the transport of some parcels, which were to be sent to Italy and contained 10.000 surgical masks, 17.000 household masks, 400 disposable masks, 45 medical protective suits, 400 boots protective footwear.

The Argeș County Gendarmerie Inspectorate drew up the notification documents to the criminal investigation bodies on behalf of three men, as they did not respect the quarantine measures. At the same time, contraventional sanctions were applied to the three men for disturbing public order and peace.

Following the steps taken by the Romanian authorities, during this night and this morning, the Border Police carried out the entry formalities for approximately 3.000 Romanian and foreign citizens and approximately 800 vehicles, arriving at the Nădlac II Border Crossing Point .

The border police carried out the specific control upon entering the country, and later the persons were taken over by the representatives of the Public Health Directorate to complete the declaration on their own responsibility and perform the epidemiological control.

After completing the formalities and establishing the measures ordered by the medical personnel at the border crossing point, the means of transport were taken over by police and gendarme crews to be taken to the locations established for quarantine or self-isolation.

For this activity, the Border Police has tripled the forces involved in border control, for the 10 control arteries, so that formalities can be carried out quickly.

At the same time, in the last 24 hours, the crews of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations carried out 36 transport missions for 122 people to various hospital units, as well as to the existing quarantine centers in several counties in the country.

Also, in support of the activities to combat the effects, at the national level, 225 tents were installed for medical triage, streamlining of traffic at the border crossing points, respectively ensuring requests for additional quarantine spaces."
