Facebook equips UK hospitals with videoconferencing devices

Facebook will donate no less than 2050 Portal devices to hospitals in Great Britain, that is, those through which platform users can make video calls, or just audio, and they will be used for video conferences by medical staff.

Facebook participates in a pilot program created by the UK authorities, they want to offer medical staff simpler ways to communicate, which can also be used to allow patients to communicate with their loved ones.

Facebook launched the portal devices in 2018, and they can make video calls not only through the social network, but also through WhatsApp, so we are talking about two platforms with a cumulative number of over 4 billion users, although the number of unique ones is probably somewhere in the middle.

Facebook did not donate as much money as other companies to support the fight against the Coronavirus, but here it is still doing something for certain countries, not for all, but only for those from which it also generates a lot of money from customers.

"As part of this work, Facebook will provide up to 2.050 of its video calling devices for free to hospitals, care homes and other settings, including hospitals, learning disability patients and autism units. 50 of the devices have already been deployed across pilot sites in Surrey, with Manchester, Newcastle and London and other areas to follow, with support from Accenture.”
