Coronavirus Romania new cases January 2, 2021

The Coronavirus pandemic did not take a break for Christmas or the New Year, even if it seems so, the reality is that the intensity of the pandemic remains very strong, and this is because previous infections continue to generate new infections among people.

The authorities remain very worried because of the very large number of deaths announced daily due to the Coronavirus pandemic, but also because of the large number of people who are admitted to intensive care at the moment.

The reality is that despite the start of the vaccination campaign in Romania, things are very far from entering a normal phase, which represents a very big problem for all of us, and the authorities still recommend vigilance among all people.

"Until today, January 2, on the territory of Romania, 637.395 cases of people infected with the new coronavirus (COVID-19) have been confirmed.

571.333 patients were declared cured.

Following the tests carried out at the national level, compared to the last report, 1.194 new cases of people infected with SARS - CoV - 2 (COVID - 19) were registered, these being cases that have not previously had a positive test. The distribution of total cases and new cases by county can be found in the table below.

 *Regarding the "new cases not allocated by county", we specify that their number is determined by the changes made to the electronic platform through which the test results for the new coronavirus are reported and centralized. Thus, according to the new methodology, the test centers directly enter the results of the tests carried out, following which the epidemiological investigation is carried out at the level of the Public Health Directorates and the positive cases are assigned to the county/locality to which the infected persons belong.

The coefficient of cumulative infections per 14 days, reported per 1.000 inhabitants, is calculated by the Directorates of Public Health, at the level of the Municipality of Bucharest and the counties. Distinct from the newly confirmed cases, following retesting of patients who were already positive, 122 people were reconfirmed positive. The distribution of these cases by county can be found in the table below.

Until today, 15.919 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died.

In the interval 01.01.2021 (10:00) - 02.01.2021 (10:00) 78 deaths (48 men and 30 women) of patients infected with the new coronavirus, hospitalized in hospitals in Alba, Arad, Bacău were reported , Bistrița-Năsăud, Botoșani, Brăila, Brașov, Călărași, Caraș-Severin, Cluj, Constanța, Dâmbovița, Dolj, Hunedoara, Iași, Maramureș, Sibiu, Timiș, Vaslui and the City of Bucharest.

Of these, 7 deaths were recorded in the age category 50-59 years, 18 deaths in the age category 60-69 years, 30 deaths in the age category 70-79 years and 23 deaths in the category over 80 years.

76 of the registered deaths are of patients who presented comorbidities, and for 2 deceased patients no comorbidities have been reported to date.

In the health units, the total number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 is 8.723. Of these, 1.117 are hospitalized at ATI.

Up to this date, at the national level, 4.817.844 tests have been processed. Of these, 4.438 were performed in the last 24 hours, 3.681 based on case definition and medical protocol, and 757 on request.

On the territory of Romania, 31.355 people confirmed to be infected with the new coronavirus are in isolation at home, and 8.858 people are in institutional isolation. Also, 46.736 people are in home quarantine, and 59 people are in institutionalized quarantine.

In the last 24 hours, 1.748 calls were made to the single emergency number 112.

As a result of the violation of the provisions of Law no. 55/2020 regarding some measures to prevent and combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the police and gendarmes applied, on January 1, 2021, 2.795 contraventional sanctions, in the amount of 684.251 lei.

Also, through the competent structures of the Police, 3 criminal files were drawn up yesterday for thwarting the fight against diseases, an act provided for and punished by art. 352 Criminal Code.

We remind citizens that the Ministry of Internal Affairs operationalized, starting on 04.07.2020, a TELVERDE line (0800800165) where violations of health protection rules can be reported.

The calls are taken by a dispatcher, in an integrated system, and distributed to the territorial structures for verification of the reported aspects.

Regarding the situation of Romanian citizens in other countries, 7.063 Romanian citizens have been confirmed to be infected with SARS – CoV – 2 (coronavirus): 1.939 in Italy, 1.290 in Spain, 173 in Great Britain, 125 in France, 3.085 in Germany, 93 in Greece, 49 in Denmark, 36 in Hungary, 28 in the Netherlands, 2 in Namibia, 4 in the USA, 7 in Sweden, 131 in Austria, 22 in Belgium, 6 in Japan, 2 in Indonesia, 11 in Switzerland , 3 in Turkey, 2 in Iceland, 2 in Belarus, 2 in Bulgaria, 10 in Cyprus, 2 in India, 2 in Ukraine, 8 in the United Arab Emirates, 12 in the Republic of Moldova, 3 in Montenegro and one each in Argentina, Tunisia , Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, Brazil, Kazakhstan, Republic of Congo, Qatar, Vatican City, Portugal, Egypt, Pakistan and the Russian Federation. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) epidemic and up to this moment, 130 Romanian citizens abroad, 33 in Italy, 19 in France, 43 in Great Britain, 11 in Spain, 14 in Germany, 2 in Belgium, 3 in Sweden, one in Switzerland, one in the US, one in Brazil, one in the Republic of Congo and one in Greece, have died."
