Coronavirus Romania New Cases Announced May 8, 2021

The situation of the Corona virus pandemic in Romania is going from good to better, the number of new cases constantly decreasing in our country, and this to the extent that the number of vaccinations has been continuously increasing for several weeks now.

The number of deaths is also decreasing, as is the number of people hospitalized in intensive care, the authorities presenting us that in this situation too, things are going much better at the moment, which is excellent news.

After a record of vaccinations in one day, it is possible to see others in the following days, with over 100.000 people immunized in just 24 hours, which would help a lot to return to normality as quickly as possible in Romania.

"Until today, May 8, on the territory of Romania, 1.065.254 cases of people infected with the new coronavirus (COVID-19) have been confirmed.

1.011.694 patients were declared cured.

Following the tests carried out at the national level, compared to the last report, 1.305 new cases of people infected with SARS - CoV - 2 (COVID - 19) were registered, these being cases that have not previously had a positive test. The distribution of total cases and new cases by county can be found in the table below.

*Regarding the "new cases not allocated by county", we specify that their number is determined by the changes made to the electronic platform through which the test results for the new coronavirus are reported and centralized. Thus, according to the new methodology, the test centers directly enter the results of the tests carried out, following which the epidemiological investigation is carried out at the level of the Public Health Directorates and the positive cases are assigned to the county/locality to which the infected persons belong.

The coefficient of cumulative infections per 14 days, reported per 1.000 inhabitants, is calculated by the Directorates of Public Health, at the level of the Municipality of Bucharest and the counties. Distinct from the newly confirmed cases, following retesting of patients who were already positive, 265 people were reconfirmed positive. The distribution of these cases by county can be found in the table below.

Until today, 28.903 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died.

In the interval 07.05.2021 (10:00) - 08.05.2021 (10:00) 104 deaths (62 men and 42 women) of patients infected with the new coronavirus, hospitalized in hospitals in Alba, Arad, Argeș, Bacau, Bihor, Bistrita-Năsăud, Botoșani, Brașov, Buzău, Caraș-Severin, Călărași, Cluj, Constanta, Dolj, Galati, Giurgiu, Harghita, Hunedoara, Iași, Maramureș, Mureș, Neamț, Olt, Prahova, Sălaj, Suceava, Timiș, Vaslui, Vâlcea, Vrancea, Ilfov and the City of Bucharest.

Of these, 1 death was registered in the age category 0-9 years, 1 death in the age category 30-39 years, 2 deaths in the age category 40-49 years, 8 deaths in the age category 50-59 years, 28 deaths in the age category 60-69 years, 35 deaths in the age category 70-79 years and 29 deaths in the age category over 80 years.

95 of the recorded deaths are of patients who presented comorbidities, 6 deceased patients did not present comorbidities, and for 3 deceased patients no comorbidities have been reported to date. 

In the health units, the total number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 is 6.523. Of these, 1.026 are hospitalized at ATI. 

Until this date, at the national level, 7.497.476 RT-PCR tests and 959.507 rapid antigen tests have been processed. In the last 24 hours, 24.636 RT-PCR tests (9.794 based on case definition and medical protocol and 14.842 on request) and 12.821 rapid antigen tests were performed.

On the territory of Romania, 20.350 people confirmed to be infected with the new coronavirus are in isolation at home, and 6.832 people are in institutional isolation. Also, 48.377 people are in home quarantine, and 139 people are in institutionalized quarantine.

 

In the last 24 hours, 1.366 calls were registered to the single emergency number 112 and 878 to the TELVERDE line (0800 800 358), opened specifically for informing citizens.

As a result of the violation of the provisions of Law no. 55/2020 regarding some measures to prevent and combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the police and gendarmes applied, on May 7, 3.588 contravention sanctions, in the amount of 769.735 lei.

Also, through the competent structures of the Police, 5 criminal files were drawn up yesterday for thwarting the fight against diseases, an act provided for and punished by art. 352 Criminal Code.

We remind citizens that the Ministry of Internal Affairs operationalized, starting on 04.07.2020, a TELVERDE line (0800800165) where violations of health protection rules can be reported.

The calls are taken by a dispatcher, in an integrated system, and distributed to the territorial structures to verify the reported aspects."
