Valeriu Gheorghita: The Delta Strain Will Bring Big Increases in New Cases of Coronavirus

Valeriu Gheorghita Tulpina Delta will Bring Large Increases in New Cases of Coronavirus

Valeriu Gheorghita says very clearly that the delta strain of the Coronavirus is extremely dangerous and will lead to a large increase in the number of new infection cases in the coming months, becoming the dominant variant among those circulating at the moment.

Valeriu Gheorghita reiterates the fact that this is 60% more contagious compared to the UK version, and this is where the problems registered both there and in other countries around the world come from, where the number of new cases is growing unexpectedly high in full summer.

"On the contrary, what may be worth mentioning is the fact that some of the cases do not have a relevant epidemiological history, i.e. they are cases that seem to be of domestic origin, rather than imported cases. That is precisely why it is important, I remind you, that the Delta strain has all the capacity to become the dominant strain, the majority strain in terms of the number of cases of COVID-19, by the fact that it has this increased transmission capacity by at least 60%, it has an increased ability to bind to the specific receptors of the SARS-CoV virus and may also be associated to some extent with the reduction of the effectiveness of vaccines if we do not complete the vaccination schedule.

So it is very important to have a complete vaccination schedule in order to get maximum protection against this viral variant of concern, the Delta strain. It is also important that the number of vaccinated people be as high as possible, precisely to be prepared for a possible increase in the number of cases. Both the World Health Organization and the European Center for Disease Control estimate that the Delta strain will become dominant globally, and not just in certain countries, which shows, from these estimates... sure, they're estimates, but it seems that by at the end of August the expected data suggests a dominance of this strain in over 90% of the COVID-19 cases, which is obviously worrying.”
