Coronavirus Romania New Cases Announced on August 26, 2021

The new official number of new cases of Coronavirus from August 26, 2021 was announced by the authorities and you can see that we are again talking about an increase compared to last week, the authorities' estimates of exceeding 1500 new cases in September getting closer to reality.

The number of Romanians admitted to hospitals is also increasing, some already starting to report the fact that they no longer have places in the intensive care units dedicated to the Coronavirus, so the situation is getting worse and will continue in the same trend, unfortunately.

The authorities in Romania constantly tell us that the Coronavirus pandemic has not ended and that we must continue to protect ourselves and vaccinate, but the vaccination campaign is also at a standstill, from which it is possible to get out in the fall of this year.

"Until today, August 26, 1.093.924 cases of people infected with the new coronavirus (COVID-19) were confirmed on the territory of Romania.

1.053.091 patients were declared cured.

Following the tests carried out at the national level, compared to the last report, 953 new cases of people infected with SARS - CoV - 2 (COVID - 19) were registered, these being cases that have not previously had a positive test. The distribution of total cases and new cases by county can be found in the table below.

*Regarding the "new cases not allocated by county", we specify that their number is determined by the changes made to the electronic platform through which the test results for the new coronavirus are reported and centralized. Thus, according to the new methodology, the test centers directly enter the results of the tests carried out, following which the epidemiological investigation is carried out at the level of the Public Health Directorates and the positive cases are assigned to the county/locality to which the infected persons belong.

The coefficient of cumulative infections per 14 days, reported per 1.000 inhabitants, is calculated by the Directorates of Public Health, at the level of the Municipality of Bucharest and the counties. Distinct from the newly confirmed cases, following retesting of patients who were already positive, 143 people were reconfirmed positive. The distribution of these cases by county can be found in the table below.

Until today, 34.471 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died.

Between 25.08.2021 (10:00) - 26.08.2021 (10:00) 18 deaths (9 men and 9 women) of patients infected with the new coronavirus, admitted to hospitals in Argeș, Bihor, were reported by the INSP , Brăila, Botoșani, Cluj, Caraș-Severin, Galați, Giurgiu, Mureș, Neamț, Sibiu, Sălaj, Prahova and the City of Bucharest.

1 of these deaths is prior to the above-mentioned interval and was entered into the database, at the request of the Ministry of Health, by the Public Health Directorates in the country, following the checks carried out. The death occurred in July 2021, in the Municipality of Bucharest.

Of the 18 deaths, 1 was registered in the age category 30-39 years, 1 in the age category 40-49 years, 5 in the age category 60-69 years, 6 in the age category 70-79 years and 5 in the age category aged over 80 years.

17 of the recorded deaths are of patients who had comorbidities, and for 1 deceased patient no comorbidities have been reported to date.

In the health units, the total number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 is 1.658. Of these, 228 are hospitalized at ATI.

Until this date, at the national level, 9.026.060 RT-PCR tests and 2.292.234 rapid antigenic tests have been processed. In the last 24 hours, 14.174 RT-PCR tests were performed (5.908 based on case definition and medical protocol and 8.266 on request) and 21.417 rapid antigen tests.

On the territory of Romania, 5.020 people confirmed to be infected with the new coronavirus are in isolation at home, and 1.703 people are in institutional isolation. Also, 58.480 people are in home quarantine, and 63 people are in institutionalized quarantine.

In the last 24 hours, 806 calls were made to the single emergency number 112 and 533 to the TELVERDE line (0800 800 358), opened specifically for informing citizens.

As a result of the violation of the provisions of Law no. 55/2020 regarding some measures to prevent and combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the police and gendarmes applied, on August 25, 465 contraventional sanctions, in the amount of 197.452 lei. Also, through the competent structures of the Police, a criminal file was drawn up yesterday for thwarting the fight against diseases, an act foreseen and punished by art. 352 Criminal Code.

We remind citizens that the Ministry of Internal Affairs operationalized, starting on 04.07.2020, a TELVERDE line (0800800165) where violations of health protection rules can be reported.
