The Minister of Health speaks in a last-minute announcement about a series of decisions that were taken for millions of Romanians throughout the country, and this is because after the beginning of his mandate he ordered the signing of several design contracts for hospitals that should be built with money from PNRR.
The Minister of Health talks below about what the measures that have been officially taken mean for Romanians throughout the country, and they will be implemented in the coming years, the hospitals themselves having to be completed by 2026, which theoretically would must happen, according to Alexandru Rafila.
"I think so (n. ed. regarding the framing of the construction of hospitals with money from PNRR until 2026), if we are going to introduce an issue that, unfortunately, we did not manage to introduce at regional hospitals. First of all, this year we will finalize the list, it will be adopted by decision of the Romanian Government this year.
It is good news that shows professionalism in the ministry I lead, and combats various demagogic theses that have been circulated by various nervous people lately. I think the ministry is one of those that managed to reach absolutely all PNRR milestones on time. All these things require a lot of work behind the scenes, a technical documentation.
All have been done, and are ongoing, people apply. People applied to medical offices, to hospitals, to nosocomial infections, to specialized outpatient clinics, there are a lot of applicants. Already the first few hundred, 1.000 files from family medicine have already been approved, they can sign the financing contract in a short time.
Things are moving, we are on schedule, but we have to find a solution so as not to waste time with subsequent auctions. I found the regional hospitals at the ministry, the 3 that had received funding approval through PNRR, but none of them had started the design, so there is no design. We managed to sign the design contracts for all three.
The first was in Iasi in December 2021, the second in Cluj in April, and the last was last week for Craiova. We have signed the contracts, we are working on the design, it lasts 12 months. Next year, halfway through, we will have ready the projects from Cluj and Iasi, and next year in the second half, probably in November, we will have the design ready for the current ones as well."
